Out of this figure, the population of backward classes is three lakhs fifty-eight thousand five hundred and eighty. According to the census of 2001, the total population of the urban people living in the urban areas of the district of Amritsar is eleven lakhs two thousand and eighty. Although, the population in the district of Amritsar consists of the people majorly from the Sikh religion, people from other religions also stay in the place. The other religions are equally respected. The language that the majority of the population of Amritsar speaks is Punjabi. The other languages that are spoken in the district of Amritsar are Hindi, English , Urdu and Maajhi.
